Record-Breaking Attendance in 2017 Sets the Stage for Tremendous Growth

GREENSBORO, NC -- The Greensboro Science Center (GSC) experienced record-breaking attendance in 2017 with 434,718 guests choosing to either experience the GSC’s one-of-a-kind science attraction featuring an aquarium, museum, zoo, and treetop adventure park, or attend one of its special events.

CEO Glenn Dobrogosz says, "The last time we broke all attendance records was after we opened the original aquarium back in 2013. In 2017, we opened the Wiseman Aquarium expansion and Prehistoric Passages: Realm of Dragons, which have clearly made an extremely positive impact. These new attractions now bring incredible ocean diversity, adventures in ancient history and new technological learning experiences to hundreds of thousands of curious eyes and minds."

On the heels of this record-breaking attendance, the GSC is currently working on six major projects:
• Renewal of accreditation with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (application due March 1, 2018)
• SAIL (Science Advancement through Innovative Learning) STEM CENTER
• Complete transformation of its front entrance
• The Rotary Club of Greensboro Carousel
• Full design for Revolution Ridge – Life on the Edge, its largest zoological construction project to date
• Full design for the Battleground Parks District (BPD)

In 2006, the GSC unveiled a plan to reach 500,000 guests annually. With that number clearly within reach due to all of the projects currently underway, the GSC will be unveiling its 2020 to 2030 Vision either later this year or in early 2019.

Dobrogosz says, "Community passion behind the GSC has historically always focused on our positive impact in science education and species conservation. Today, the GSC seen as both an economic impact driver and marketing (Greensboro awareness) partner in our community's reinvention and renewal process."
He continues, "Tourism is the purest form of economic development. Creating experiences that encourage people to spend their disposable income right here in our community helps everyone. Now that most of our 435,000 visitors are coming from outside of Guilford County, there is no doubt that the GSC is helping lead Greensboro into a new era of positive growth and visibility."
