Piedmont Triad, NC – The Piedmont Triad Airport Authority will hold its eleventh annual Run on the Runway 9 a.m. Saturday, March 28th, one hour later than in past years. The event includes a 5K run, a 10K run, a mile run/walk, a kids’ dash and a 5K untimed Walk to Win Against Hunger, with all proceeds going to fight hunger in the Piedmont Triad.

In addition to the events for individual runners, teams of runners can sign up for the “Team Challenge” at www.ptirun.com. Awards will be given for the team with the most members and the team with the fastest time among its top five runners.
The event has been moved to 9 a.m. to allow time for the temperature to warm up before race time, according to airport officials. The event was moved to March three years ago to accommodate runway renovations, which has meant that volunteers and runners have been arriving at the event in the early morning hours before sunrise when temperatures are still low.

As in past years, participants are encouraged to arrive early to catch a shuttle from the parking area to the runway. This year, participants should arrive at the airport by 8:30 a.m. in order to get to the runway in time for the 10K run at 9 a.m. Participants are also encouraged to bring two non-perishable food items to the event.

Proceeds from the run will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, Greensboro Urban Ministry and Open Door Ministries of High Point. These organizations provide food assistance to help meet the immediate and urgent needs of Triad residents, while pursuing an end to hunger through outreach, education and advocacy.

The event has raised more than $100,000 for the food banks each year for the past four years in a row. Event organizers are reaching out to sponsors now in an effort to maintain the $100,000 fundraising level. Those wishing to sponsor the event should call Stephanie Freeman at 336.665.5644.

The Airport Authority and our beneficiaries are grateful to the many community sponsors from throughout the Triad who support the run – particularly our media sponsors WGHP Fox8, Rock92/WKZL and Lamar Outdoor Advertising. Individuals interested in participating in the 5K/10K may register online by visiting www.ptirun.com. For more information call Stephanie Freeman at 336.665.5644.
