Sharrard, McGee & Co., PA Announces 2021 Management Transition

Sharrard, McGee & Co., PA, a consulting and accounting firm with offices in High Point and Greensboro, will mark their 45th anniversary by starting a multi-year “Third Generation Director Group” transition. Patsy Isley, CPA, has been named the new Managing Director, replacing Alan Scheppmann, CPA, who will continue to serve clients as firm Director.

“The current Director Group is very intentional about the direction of our firm, and by allowing several years for this transition to the third generation of owners, we can share what we learned in the second generation by providing guidance and active support,” said Scheppmann. “I will continue to serve my clients and community in the same capacity, and we’ll maintain our guiding principle of placing clients first. Thanks to Patsy stepping up, I can focus on team training activities, service enrichment, and business development to facilitate a smooth and well-executed transition.”

Isley, who joined the firm in 1989, is enthusiastic about her new position, “My priority is to protect and promote our firm culture. We exist to help every employee and client develop and grow to meet their fullest potential. We accomplish that by building a team of life-long learners and leaders who are passionate about delivering exceptional client service and solutions, and who love to work together. Our greatest strength is our top-notch talent, and our successful transition is incumbent upon providing them the skills and technology to nurture our firm through the next 45 years.”

Manager Ed Brabble, CPA, CGMA, has been named the first member of the “Third Generation Director Group.”  Brabble, who joined the firm in 1997, has extensive experience with tax and attest services. His areas of specialty include the construction, manufacturing, and automobile dealership industries, not-for-profit entities, and employee benefit plans. He earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Accounting at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Tax Manager Addison R. Maille, JD, CPA, has been given the responsibility for overseeing the firm’s tax department, managing all the members of the team and providing specialized advice to business clients. Addison joined SMC in 2017 with a career of more than 20 years’ experience with public accounting firms, providing tax and consulting services. He holds a Master of Science degree in Accounting from Union College and was awarded his Juris Doctor degree by Albany Law School.

With team building an integral part of the transition preparation, the firm prioritizes its advisory services over traditional accounting and tax planning offerings. “We have always taken a holistic approach, guiding clients through the business life cycles of start-up, development, growth, and maturity, “said Isley. “As the owners of our firm, we have an authentic understanding of the services they need to meet challenges, and over the years, have expanded our offerings accordingly.” Cashflow management, trend analysis, cloud accounting services, mergers and acquisitions, estate and succession planning, are among the advisory services sought by the firm’s clients, which represent primarily closely held and family businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Industries served include construction, commercial real estate, manufacturing, retail, and medical, financial, and professional services.

While the transition officially begins in 2021, the past year brought an unprecedented number of promotions and the hiring of four new team members. Nancy McRee, CPA, CGMA, was promoted from Controller to Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer. Christopher Singletary, CPA, was promoted from Senior Accountant to Supervisor. Robert (Trey) Hocutt III and June Zhao were promoted from Staff Accountant to Senior Accountant. The newest members of the Sharrard, McGee & Co., PA team include Maurice (Mike) Atkins, CPA, Tax Manager; Daniel Kelley, CPA, Audit Senior Accountant; Henrik Smith, Audit Supervisor; Mark Welch, CPA, Tax Manager; and Kyle Rogers, CPA, as Senior Tax Accountant.

“This has been a challenging year,” said Isley, “COVID-19 brought personal and business hardships to our clients, and we’ve responded by leaning more deeply into our relationships, identifying the issues they are facing, and helping them develop solutions. We are poised to continue providing this extra level of support as many of them deal with PPP Loan Forgiveness issues and guide them through the inevitable recovery. We anticipate everyone will be facing some transition in 2021.”
